The competition is 3 weeks long and all you need to do is watch Bux TV everyday as we introduce our 12 singers and then you get to VOTE every week. There will be a “Staff Team'' with 6 contestants, as well as a “Student Team” with 6 more contestants, and all contestants will remain anonymous. You can watch the competition on BuxTV in your 5th or 6th period, as well as, on your “Class of ______'' Google Classroom pages or in the cafeteria during lunch. Then voting opens on Wednesday, after school, you can also vote during both lunches on Thursday and the “polls'' close Thursday after school. Ballots will be sold in the cafeteria as well as in Mrs. Allen’s, Mrs. Wavra’s, Mr. McComb’s and Mrs. Ohrman’s rooms. Each vote costs only $1 and that includes 2 possibilities to win BIG. There are actually two things you vote on, you rank who you think sang the best that week AND try to guess their true identity. Each CORRECT guess earns you one raffle ticket. At the end of the third week we will raffle off our grand prizes. The grand prize is a SPLIT THE POT. Which means, we are going to pool together ALL the profits made from this competition and split it with the winners, giving each winner 25% of the proceeds on a prepaid Visa Gift card. So for example, if we sell 200 ballots over 3 weeks then each winner would get a $50 Visa gift card. So I am challenging each and every XHS student to participate and try to GUESS THAT MASKED SINGER!!!!!!!

  • Happy New Year & Welcome back! It's Mindful Monday and the perfect time to start some healthy mindfulness habits!
It’s no secret that deep breathing exercises are a great way to reduce stress. Taking a few moments to concentrate and breathe deeply calms not just the mind but the body. There are several ways to practice deep breathing but it’s always a good idea to try something new. This Monday, try square breathing when you need to take a moment to settle down.

Here is the practice: Let's do this together!

Inhale for a count of 4
Hold for a count of 4
Exhale for a count of 4
Hold for a count of 4

We all can do this throughout the day when we're feeling overwhelmed... Just BREATHE!

Each morning brings a new day to experience. Some mornings we may wake up with lots of energy and want to jump out of bed. Other mornings we may feel tired or worried or just want to pull the covers over our heads. No matter how we feel when we wake up, we can take time to check in with ourselves. We can notice what the day feels like and set a goal for something we want to try doing or feeling during the day, like being kind to ourselves or other people. These morning activities help us get us ready to make the most of the day.

  • On Monday the Cross Country team faced off against their toughest opponents of the year... their teachers. A challenge was issued by the Cross Country team captain, Austin Schubert, to the coaches a few weeks ago, and on Monday the teams finally collided in an epic kickball match. Despite the cross country team's best efforts to trash talk, intimidate, and "get in the heads" of their opponents they fell to the teachers 28 - 6 in a very one sided match. Maybe this is why they are runners.... Despite their awful kickball skills Mr. Lynch is proud of the season they had and is looking forward to seeing how much better we can get as a team.
P.S. The teachers are ready for a rematch when you are. Good luck.

  • It's Feel Good Friday!
Feel Good Fact: Did you know? The act of smiling can make you happier. Still not in a great mood? Try smiling. One notable 2009 study presented at the British Psychological Society's annual conference found that even if a smile is forced, the brain still responds to the expression by releasing chemicals that improve your mood.

Want to practice some Chill Skills? Come to B-109 during both lunches to calm down, feel good, and unwind.
  • Attention GSA members: Our next GSA meeting is this coming Monday, after school, in Mrs. Ohrman's room B233. We are always accepting new members, all you need to do is attend a meeting.

  • Today is the day! It's mole day!!!! A mole is a counting number used by chemists to count atoms. Because atoms are so teeny tiny, it takes lots and lots and lots of atoms to make an amount that is easy for chemists to work with. 1 mole is equal to 6 x 10 to the 23rd which is a 6 with 23 zeros. That is a HUGE number. Much too big a number to comprehend. The science department wishes everyone a HAPPY MOLE DAY!!!
  • Blue Crew! Don’t forget tonight’s theme for Senior Night versus Sidney is a blackout! Please come out and support our Buccaneers!! Remember there are prizes for best dressed and for best student section photo!

Also, Monday there will be a brief blue crew meeting right after school in Mrs. Kadel’s room, room B125. We will be discussing upcoming seasons and also finalizing plans for Trunk or Treat!
