On Friday, December 19, Superintendent Dr. Gabriel Lofton sent a message to all XCS families and the community, inviting applications to be a volunteer member of one of several committees. Below is the letter in it’s entirety: 

Dear Xenia Families & Community, 
As our community is aware, we have been working diligently over the past year to create and begin implementation of our new strategic plan, Destination 2030.One of the five key tenets of that plan is Community Engagement, and I am proud of the many ways we continue to strengthen connections with our families and the broader community.

As part of that work, we are now seeking community volunteers who are interested in serving on one of four XCS Committees:

• Finance Committee: Focus on budgeting, financial reporting, audits. Convened by the Treasurer.
• Student Achievement Committee: Focus on improving learning, evaluating programs, and recommending policies to elevate academic outcomes. Convened by the Superintendent.
• Policy Committee: Focus on policy updates to support students and staff, while ensuring district compliance with all state and federal laws. Convened by the Superintendent.
• Board Governance/Strategic Plan Committee (ad hoc): Focus on board governance goals, related to the district's five-year strategic plan. Convened by the Board President.

These committees play an important advisory role, and provide an opportunity for community members to share perspectives, ask questions, and contribute meaningfully to the district’s work. These volunteer positions are open to our entire community, including current Xenia High School Juniors and Seniors, bringing critical student voices to discussions that have a real-world impact on their daily lives.

Eligibility:
These volunteer positions are open to any member of the Xenia Community Schools community, as well as current Xenia High School Juniors and Seniors. Volunteers are eligible for one committee appointment only. 

Time Commitment: 
Standing Committees meet monthly or quarterly, with dates and times to be determined by the committee upon appointment. If appointed to a committee, volunteers are expected to prioritize attendance and active participation.

Appointments will be made at the 2026 Board of Education Organizational Meeting on Monday, January 12, 2026 at 6:00 p.m.
