Xenia’s Future Diplomats Take on D.C.

Xenia High School’s Model UN executive board recently returned from a trip to Washington, D.C., where they competed in the North American Invitational Model United Nations (NAIMUN).
As one of the world’s oldest and largest simulations for high school students, NAIMUN hosted over 3,300 students for a rigorous four-day conference organized entirely by more than 250 Georgetown University undergraduates.
Our students successfully showcased their public speaking, negotiation, and critical thinking skills as they tackled complex international and historical issues:
- Matthew Combs and Easton Butler developed a resolution to help prevent the exploitation of natural space resources resulting from the increasing volume of space missions.
- Beau Weaver addressed governmental corruption within the National Diet, Japan’s bicameral legislature.
- Violet Black participated in NAIMUN’s “all-women” crisis committee as Amelia Earhart. This unique committee was designed to amplify and empower women's voices in a crisis setting. A special congratulations goes to Violet for her work in this group, where she earned a verbal commendation award for her contributions to the Air Derby crisis committee.
It wasn't all debate and diplomacy! The team took full advantage of their time in our nation’s capital, by visiting the Library of Congress, enjoying a scenic night tour of the national monuments, and taking a trip to the National Zoo.
We are incredibly proud of these students for representing Xenia with distinction.
