Campfire Stories and Sweet Success at McKinley Elementary

McKinley Elementary’s first graders recently traded their desks for spot by the fire during a recent Campfire Stories literacy family engagement event! The program brought students' imaginations to life through a shared love of reading — arriving just in time to kick off Right to Read Week.
During the afternoon program, the school cafeteria served as "base camp" where students and their families navigated through various reading stations. From cozying up with a good book to practicing foundational skills, the "campers" showed incredible enthusiasm for showing their parents what they have learned this year. The program featured reading activities ranging from books to fun activity pages, as well as a "campfire" photo op that was a major hit, providing a perfect backdrop for families to capture a memento of their afternoon adventure. Of course, no camping trip is complete without treats! Families enjoyed delicious s'mores snacks while discussing their favorite parts of the stories they read.
This successful event was a true team effort. A special shout-out to our McKinley Parent Liaison, Rachel Sandoval, and our dedicated first-grade teachers, Ms. DiSalvo, Mrs. Ketchen, and Mrs. Singleton for their hard work in planning and hosting such a creative experience for our students and families.
