Xenia Community Schools announced the 2026 Educator of the Year and Staff Person of the Year at the back-to-school Convocation on Monday, August 24. 

Paula Shaw, a fifth-grade math teacher at Shawnee Elementary, was named Educator of the Year. Sheila Earley, cafeteria manager at Arrowood Elementary, was recognized as Staff Person of the Year.

“Every single day, our educators and support staff bring energy, heart, and excellence into our school buildings,” said Dr. Gabriel Lofton, Superintendent. “While we are fortunate to have an incredible team across the entire district, Paula and Sheila truly represent the best of Xenia. Through their work, they build up our students and strengthen our community, and it is a privilege to honor them today.” 

Awardees are nominated at the end of each school year and officially recognized at the start of the following academic year. Each recipient receives a $1,000 stipend supported by the Doug Adams Trust.

Sheila Earley, Staff Person of the Year
As Cafeteria Manager at Arrowood Elementary, Sheila Earley is widely respected by colleagues across the district. Her positive attitude, high energy, openness to change, and dedication to providing quality daily meals make her an indispensable member of the Student Nutrition Services team. Earley’s professionalism has turned Arrowood’s kitchen into the primary training hub for new district cafeteria staff. Known for creating a warm, welcoming environment, she builds strong connections with both students and colleagues.

Paula Shaw, Educator of the Year
A proud Xenia graduate with nearly three decades of teaching experience, Paula Shaw embodies excellence in education. As a fifth-grade math teacher at Shawnee Elementary, she connects with students through honesty, sincerity, and empathy while maintaining rigorous academic standards. Beyond her exceptional instructional practices and consistent results, Shaw has left a lasting legacy by co-founding the Kids Hope mentoring program at Shawnee a decade ago. Her leadership has paired consistent adult mentors with more than 100 students, transforming the school's culture. Shaw frequently supports her students outside the classroom by attending their games, organizing family dinners, and building meaningful connections that inspire lifelong learning.
