Empowering Families: Mental Health Awareness

This week, members of our middle and high school community came together to take an active role in supporting the well-being of our students!
Presented by guest speaker Rochele Burnette, the interactive hour-long informational session introduced key concepts from the Youth Mental Health First Aid training program. Created by the National Council for Mental Wellbeing, the framework introduces parents and caregivers to essential skills for identifying, understanding, and responding to signs of mental health and substance use challenges in adolescents ages 12–18.
During the presentation, participants explored how to recognize early warning signs of common conditions — such as anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and ADHD — while also touching on some of the biggest stressors our students face today. Parents and caregivers gained insight into a practical 5-step action plan, learning how to assess risk, listen nonjudgmentally, offer reassurance, and connect teens with professional support and self-help strategies.
By introducing our families to these crucial early-intervention tools, we are helping build a safer, more supportive environment for our entire school community. Thank you to the dedicated parents and caregivers who attended, as well as our 8th grade WEB leaders, who kept younger attendees engaged in the play area so adults could focus on the presentation. Way to go, Bucs!
