Early Graduation

Early Graduation at Xenia Community Schools

The Xenia Community Schools Board of Education recognizes that some students may wish to pursue their educational goals on an accelerated timeline. If you are looking to graduate ahead of your designated class, there are specific pathways and requirements to help you reach that milestone.

Students who complete early graduation requirements are welcome to participate in graduation ceremonies with either their original designated class or the class graduating in the year they complete their requirements.

Pathways to Early Graduation

There are two distinct tracks for students seeking to graduate early:

Track #1: General Early Graduation
This is for students who have fulfilled all District and State high school graduation requirements ahead of schedule.

  • How to Apply: Pick up an application packet in the Guidance Office.
  • Deadline: Generally, applications should be submitted to the Guidance Office by the first Friday of September of your Junior year.

Track #2: Advanced Learners
This track is for students identified for acceleration, often starting as early as middle school.

  • Referral: Students can be referred by a staff member, parent, guardian, or through a peer/self-referral.
  • Timeline: Advanced learners should ideally contact their middle school counselor at the beginning of 8th grade.
  • Evaluation: A committee will review the student’s academic performance, state assessment scores, and personal goals.

A written acceleration plan will be developed for approved students.

  • To ensure you are ready for this transition, the following criteria are evaluated:

    • Academic Performance: A suggested minimum G.P.A. of 2.5.
    • Attendance: A verification of 97% or higher attendance.
    • Assessments: Successful passage of all State-mandated assessments.
    • Coursework: Completion of all Ohio and District-required credits.

  • Before submitting your request, ensure you have gathered the following:

Credit Checklist Documented proof of all required credits earned.
Verifications Proof of G.P.A., Attendance, and Paid Fees.
Student Essay A written plan detailing your goals and reasons for early graduation.
Approvals Signed Parent/Guardian consent and Declaration of Intent.

  • Once a referral is made, the building principal will convene an Acceleration Evaluation Committee, including:

    • A parent or legal guardian.
    • A Gifted Education Coordinator or Specialist.
    • A school Principal or Assistant Principal.
    • A current teacher of the student.

The committee will issue a written decision within 45 calendar days of the referral.

  • Not sure if early graduation is right for you?

Your first step should always be a meeting with your Guidance Counselor to discuss your options!
